This tour to Topola and Oplenac is a shared, small group tour which operates only on Wednesdays, all year round. If Wednesdays are not matching your travel plans you can always take a private tour, or you can choose from other shared tours.
What to expect from the tour to Topola and Oplenac in 2023/24
With this tour you’ll get introduced to the roots of modern Serbian state, but also you’ll have a chance to enjoy local wine and food. Drive from Belgrade is less than an hour so it’s convenient for those not fond of long drives. The tour is designed for up to eight persons, so you still have full dedication of your guide, like on a private tour.
Tour flow
#YourSerbiaHost will meet you at centrally located pickup point at 10am (exact location is provided in booking confirmation). After an hour long drive we reach Topola. Our first stop in Oplenac exploration is Karađorđe’s Town, a spot which once was a fortified town built by Karađorđe. Later the fortified walls were demolished, so nowadays you can see only residence with tower and Church of Holly Mother.
From Karađorđe’s Town we move up to the top of Oplenac where we continue our exploration with gorgeous mausoleum of family Karađorđević. In the church 27 members of royal family were buried. Karađorđe and King Petar I lie in central part of the church, and rest of the family members are in the crypt. Significant characteristic of the church is its mosaic interior decoration with 40 million pieces in 15,000 shades of color.
On the hills of Oplenac, King Peter I planted vineyards on 38 hectares. His winery was well known among major European royal courts for the superb wine quality. The oldest Serbian wine collection can be found in authentic package from 1931 in this particular wine cellar.
When we finish with history and wine we move on to Aranđelovac town, to an ethnic restaurant with a great view. Authentic local cuisine expects you in cozy Šumadija ambient (lunch not included in the price).
After lunch tour ends and you’ll be dropped off at Belgrade city center.
