This wine tour is a shared small group tour which operates only on Fridays, all year round. If Fridays are not matching your travel plans you can always take our private wine tour or opt-in for other shared tours.
What to expect from the Friday wine tour
Wine lovers will find this tour worth of effort. Starting with newly established Despotika winery growing few indigenous Serbian vine sorts. Then historic King’s winery with legacy exhibition, followed by eminent Aleksandrović winery. And at the end young and promising Arsenijević wine cellar. At the last stop you’ll have an opportunity to match wines with local food, but also to hear young winemaker’s experience. The wine tour combines best of two worlds: comfort of traveling in a small group with affordable all-inclusive price.
#YourSerbiaHost will pick you up at 10am from centrally located pickup point (exact location is provided in booking confirmation). First wine stop is village Vlaški Do and winery Despotika. This recently established winery with ambitious plans and enthusiastic owner makes two wines from indigenous Serbian grape varieties. Those are Morava (white) and Prokupac (red). Only few winemakers in Serbia grow Morava, so you’ll have unique opportunity to try this white wine sort. Of course we won’t stop only with these two, there are many Despotika’s wines to taste.
From village Vlaški do we move on to the capital of Šumadija wine region, to Topola. On the slopes of Oplenac hill royal family Karađorđević nurtured their vineyards, from which they produced famous Trijumf (Triumph) wine. Royal wine cellars nowadays are state owned and they grow grapes on 11 hectares only. The highlight of King’s winery is the original king’s wine cellar which is in excellent condition, so you’ll have the opportunity to see how king made his wine some 85 year ago. The biggest treasure of Royal cellar is the old archive where they keep wines from 1930s. You’ll only get to try modern wines, not those from 1930s.
Next stop is one of the most prominent Serbian wineries from 1990s onward. Aleksandrović winery is a modern, yet very traditional establishment which produces only high quality wines. There is an interesting story related to their most famous Trijumf (Triumph) label and how Aleksandrović continued the tradition of making this wine. You’ll hear this one while you are sipping your own Trijumf. Nowadays Aleksandrović produces sixteen different wines, but they are best known for their Trijumf range, including sparkling wines.
And finally the most promising young Šumadija winemaker expects us at the end of the wine tour. Wine cellar Arsenijević is young winery, but the owner and winemaker Nemanja is a great young man with great enthusiasm. At the moment Arsenijević offers only four wine labels, but all of them superb. The chance to experience that on your own, together with selected food, will be during lunch with wine tasting. Pay attention to his Merlot, it’s #YourSerbiaHost’s favorite one.
After lunch tour ends and you are taken back to the center of Belgrade.
