This tour is a scheduled group tour which operates only on Fridays, all year round. For wine lovers this tour we’ll be worth of effort, because you’ll get a chance to have good impression about Šumadija wine scene, and Šumadija is probably the most advanced wine region of Serbia with longest tradition of wine making.

#YourSerbiaHost will pick you up at 10am from arranged pickup point and order of wineries will go from newly established Despotika winery growing few indigenous Serbian vine sorts, over old Royal wine cellar with historical exhibition, through eminent Aleksandrović winery and till the young and promising Arsenijević wine cellar.

Our first wine stop is village Vlaški Do and winery Despotika, a newly established winery with ambitious plans and enthusiastic owner. Despotika has several wine labels made from different kinds of grapes, but one is unique – Morava, indigenous Serbian grape variety. Only few winemakers in Serbia grow Morava, so you’ll have unique opportunity to try this white wine sort. Of course we won’t stop only with Morava, there are many Despotika’s wines to taste.

From village Vlaški do we move on to capital of Šumadija wine region, to Topola, where Royal family Karađorđević nurtured their vineyards and where they created famous Trijumf wine. Royal wine cellars nowadays are publicly owned and they grow grapes on 11 hectares only, compared to 50 hectares from the period of kingdom. The highlight of Royal winery is the original king’s wine cellar which is in excellent condition, so you’ll have the opportunity to see how king made his wine some 85 year ago. The biggest treasure of Royal cellar is the old archive where they keep wines from 1930s.

Next stop is one of the most prominent Serbian wineries from 1990s onward, Aleksandrović winery is a modern, yet very traditional establishment which produces only high quality wines. Interesting story is connected to their early days, namely the old king’s winemaker, who emigrated to Canada when WWII started, had the recipe for making the famous Trijumf (Triumph) wine, so when he heard that Aleksandrović was renewing his family vineyards and starting new winery he has sent recipe for Trijumf wine to him, in order to continue with the tradition of Trijumf wine production, which was discontinued with communist regime taking over the Royal wine cellar. Nowadays Aleksandrović produces many different wines, but they are best known for their Trijumf range, including sparkling wines.

And finally the most promising young Šumadija winemaker expects us at the end of the tour. Wine cellar Arsenijević is young winery, but the owner and winemaker Nemanja is a great young man with great enthusiasm, vision and will to improve position of Šumadijan wine on wine map of Europe. At the moment Arsenijević offers only four wine labels, but all of them are superb, which you’ll have the opportunity to experience on your own together with selected food during lunch and winetasting. Pay attention to his Merlot, it’s #YourSerbianHost’s favorite one.
