Medieval Manhattan in Serbia

Sensational discovery was found in Serbia recently, near the small town of Rudnik. The discovery revealed a city in which elites lived, both local and foreign. As a key proof of this revelation are the remains of a large medieval town and a major mining center of lead and silver from the 14th and 15th century. Houses found in the area were magnificent villas with 20 meters of length, luxuriously equipped with a high-quality pottery, glass and metal objects. Wealth of the mining center attracted many diplomats and politicians of the time. The remains of ancient cemetery confirmed that except Serbs, in Rudnik lived people from Dubrovnik and Kotor, as well as Greeks, Venetians, Hungarians and Saxons. Serbia had its Manhattan before the arrival of the Ottoman Empire.
