Pottery workshop in Latkovac

When you were a child you played at least once with a play-dough. You made tiles to use as a base for which you then tied cylindrical worms formed by rubbing clay between your palms. With those you made ​​arms, legs, handles… The final result was a product of your child’s imagination and your skills in shaping. But most usually, instead of a cat, you produced a figure which looked more like a pig 🙂 Unconsciously you have already tried some of the techniques which are used in pottery, one of the oldest crafts in the world.

Long time ago in the area of today`s Serbia pottery was a serious part of local market. Numerous archaeological findings are witnessing this: Lepenski Vir on Danube banks, Timacum Minus, a Roman military fortification near Knjaževac in East Serbia… The tradition of pottery making is still preserved in some parts of Serbia. The village Zlakusa is maybe the best example, thanks to its skilled craftsmen whose skills and knowledge are passed from generation to generation we can still admire to this fantastic handicrafts.

If you wish to awake your imagination and try centuries-old techniques of creating something out of a clay on a potter`s wheel, we can make your wish come true. We’ll take you to a perfect place, to oasis of ethno village Latkovac, at the foot of three mountains Kopaonik, Jastrebac and Goč. Visitors called this place Slatkovac (sweet Latkovac) and to understand why, you’ll just have to stay here for a while. Besides the pottery class you will enjoy local food prepared and served in clay pots, local wine and tours to the beautiful surroundings. The most precious souvenir you’ll take from here will be the one you created yourself, as a result of skills you acquired in Latkovac.
