Do you remember all of those super breathtaking photos of Serbia with a river curving down the canyon with a eagle flying over it? Yes, this is it, the Uvac Canyon. With this tour we will take you there and you’ll be able to make ultimately fantastic photos on your own with experiencing much more.
What to expect from the Zlatibor and Uvac Canyon tour
Expect to spend two days in rural areas of West Serbia, surrounded only by pure and intact nature. You’ll learn a bit about local way of life and you’ll try local food. Most of all, you will experience iconic landmark Uvac Canyon in active and authentic way, from river and from the above. If you opt-in for something slightly less rural, but still to be in the contact with nature try Zlatibor and Sargan Eight train tour.
#YourSerbiaHost will pick you up in the morning from your Belgrade address. After two hour drive through picturesque West Serbia our first stop will be village Zlakusa. The village is famous for its pottery, but even more for old school hand production. We’ll visit one of the households which still produces pottery in the old fashioned way and if you want to go for it, you can try to make something on your own (optional).
From Zlakusa we’ll start ascent to the slopes of Zlatibor Mountain. Here we’ll immerse into some more old lifestyle of the area, in the village Sirogojono. Sirogojno has the oldest ethnological open-air museum Old village in the Balkans. Households in this setup were moved from original locations and those are 100% authentic. Another uniqueness of this village are 100% wool hand knitted products, which are knitted by local Sirogojno women for centuries.
After Sirogojno our drive continues through picturesque landscapes of Zlatibor which will definitely make you speechless. Our next brake is small village Ljubiš and guest house Pećinar where we’ll make a lunch stop. You’ll enjoy homemade food and warm hospitality of Pećinar family which is specializing their hospitality skills for six generations at the very same spot.
From Ljubiš we are switching to another mountain – Zlatar. After the lunch we will head to the South, going up to the 1200m above sea level. Destination is Zlatar Lake with occasional stops along the way for photos and views. At late afternoon we will arrive to our host in Vilovi village where you will check-in to authentic bungalows with beautiful view over the Zlatar mountain. After a welcome drink and some time to recover from the long trip we could take a walk to the Zlatar Lake, 8km both direction (optional).
First day was reserved for traditional lifestyle of Zlatibor Mountain, but the second day is all about outdoor activities and adventure in the nature. After early breakfast made by our hosts, we’ll continue in the direction of Uvac Canyon. Here we’ll take you to the boat excursion along the Uvac Canyon. Boat ride lasts around 5 hours (30 km from the dock to the Ice Cave and back).
One of the main attractions here are griffon vultures. You’ll hear story about how they were saved from extinction and how many are out there now. You’ll experience complete darkness of the Ice Cave, as well as one of the best views over the Uvac Canyon meanders from observation deck high above. Climbing up the hill is not too difficult but it is absolutely worth every burned calorie.
After returning to the dock we will say good bye to our host and we will set off to the touristic center of Zlatibor for relaxation in vibrant cafes or for a stroll (if there is any energy left).
Arrival to Belgrade is in the early evening.
