Tour flow
1st Day – Monasteries Krušedol, Grgeteg, Sremski Karlovci Town and Family Winery
Your seven days in Serbia tour starts with a visit to the famous Monastery Krušedol, which is considered to be the most important on Fruška Gora. The monastery was built in the XVI century by the ruling family Brankovic.
Near Krusedol there is a less known monastery – Grgeteg. You will rarely meet tourists here, but nice nuns will be happy to welcome you and offer you tea or coffee.
The next point is the charming town Sremski Karlovci. This small town played important role in preserving Serbian identity and culture during Ottoman rule. While walking through the center, feel free to try famous Bermet wine in one of the local wineries.
After all this sightseeing it will be time for lunch and a great place for that is a warm family winery in the village of Stari ledinci. This is not a typical restaurant, here you will feel a real friendly atmosphere, tasty homemade food, and great wine that your host prepares for you personally.
You can spend the rest of the day relaxing at the household Miljevic, or you can visit Novi Sad city, which is only a 15-minute away from the winery. Your accommodation for the next two nights is this very household.
2nd Day – Exploring Fruska Gora Mountain
After a tasty home-made breakfast, the first stop will be a National Park Fruska Gora. Here you can take a walk through the lush forest and enjoy the pure nature of this area. There are many beautiful hiking trails around the NP, we recommend that you take one of those near village Vrdnik. Once you complete the hike, you’ll enjoy a short break in the village of Vrdnik and you can also visit the monastery with the same name.
The road will take you further to the nearby Komuna winery where excellent local wines paired with authentic food await you. This family-owned winery is located in the charming outback of Srem region. Definitely a great place to spend an entire afternoon there.
On the way back to your accommodation Miljević, you can visit another of the Fruška Gora monasteries, Novo Hopovo.
3rd Day – Topola Town and Šumadija Wineries
In the morning you say goodbye to your hosts and your sevend days in Serbia self-guided tour continues in Šumadija region. First, you will visit town Topola, where you will learn more about Serbian history and the Royal family Karadjordjevic. The main attraction is on the hill Oplenac, where you’ll find the magnificent church of St. George and the memorial house of King Peter The I.
On the other side of the hill, you will visit the King’s Winery, which is turned into a museum with authentic items and valuable wine collections from the 1930s. But you’ll be able to try their wines from the contemporary production.
Next on the route is the Aleksandrović winery, perhaps the most famous winery in Serbia. As part of a visit to this winery, you will have the opportunity to see the entire production process and learn more about the famous indigenous Sumadija varieties. After the tour, you will have a wine tasting. Optional lunch can be organized as well.
The last stop for today will be a cozy household Čolović, which will be your accommodation for the next two nights. Your hosts will treat you like a friend with a warm atmosphere, delicious food, and a few glasses of homemade rakija.
4th Day – Hiking Rudnik Mountain and Rujevica Household
This day you will spend in nature, exploring the vivid Sumadija and Rudnik Mountain (1100m a.s.l). The plan is to take a walk around the mountain and to check 3 viewpoints with an amazing view over the area. The hike is not demanding, and it takes around 3,5 hours to visit all three points.
After a successful hike, you will treat yourself to a tasty lunch. The perfect place for that is a family-owned winery Rujevica which combines amazing food and quality wines. This charming household is a great place to relax and rest after the morning activities.
The rest of the day you can spend in the city of Kragujevac or swimming in the pool at House Colovic before dinner time.
5th Day – Gems of Zlatibor Mountain
From Sumadija your tour continues in the mountainous Zlatibor region. The first stop will be Stopića cave which is one of the most beautiful in Serbia. Apart from the impressive entrance to the cave, the biggest attraction is the unusual limestone tubs, which took several million years to form.
Just a few kilometers from the cave, road will take you to Sirogojno ethnology museum. This unique open-air museum keeps around 50 authentic wooden objects from the XVIII century, which represents the local architecture.
Another natural attraction will be your next stop. Gostilje waterfall surrounded by lush nature and with its many cascades and rapids is a true natural attraction and you should definitely visit it.
In the evening you will settle in a village Ljubis where a lovely household Pecinar is located. For the next two nights, friendly hosts will treat you well with warm hospitality and delicious local food.
6th Day – Sargan Train Ride and Višegrad Town
This day starts with a visit to Mokra Gora and its beauties. The biggest attraction in Mokra Gora is the unique railway – Sargan eight. During 2.5 hours of exciting ride on this rustic train, you will enjoy the beautiful landscapes and untouched nature of Mokra Gora.
After the train ride, the road takes you to neighboring Bosnia and Herzegovina and Visegrad town, where you will check a UNESCO listed cultural treasure from the XV century – a bridge over the Drina. To complete the tour of the city, we recommend a cruise on the Drina river, and then a visit to the tourist complex Andrić town, where you will find the best cevapi in town.
On the way back, be sure to stop in an unusual wooden village Kustendorf, and treat yourself to delicious cakes or natural raspberry juice.
7th Day – Exploring Tara Mountain
The last day of your seven days in Serbia self–guided tour is reserved for exploring the amazing nature of Tara Mountain. The first stop on Tara is Mitrovac, where you will take a walk through the thick forest and look for a rare phenomenon – carpet meadows. Not far from here, a forest trail will take you to the famous viewpoint Banjska stena, from which you’ll enjoy the breathtaking view over the area.
The next stop is the foothill of Tara, where you will look for a short river Vrelo which is only 365m long. Follow the river flow from its source to the confluence with Drina and enjoy the ambiance and green surrounding. After a short drive, you will reach Bajina Basta town which hides the most photographed attraction in this area, the House that stands in the middle of the river.
If you are heading towards Valjevo town, be sure to look for the viewpoint the Podrinje Gate, which will surely leave you breathless.
