Tour flow
1st Day – Topola and wineries
Your journey starts just one hour drive from Belgrade, in a small town Topola. Here you will hear more about the Royal family Karadjordjević and its founder Karadjordje Petrovic. The main attraction is a remarkable St.George’s church in a white marble, which lies on a hill above the town. Besides the church, you will also visit two museums which hold many valuable artifacts from Serbian and European history.
Since this region is well known for its wine production, on the other side of the hill you will find a unique wine museum that is also related to the Royal family. Everything in the museum is authentic and dating back to the 1930s. The royal family still produces quality wines and after exploring the museum, you will have a chance to try some of their finest labels.
Just a few kilometers away, another great winery is waiting for you. Aleksandrovic winery is considered one of the best wineries in Serbia. Here you will take a small tour around the winery and try some of their products afterward. We recommend Prokupac, since it is a local indigenous variety.
The rest of the day you will spend in a charming household Colovic, which will be your accommodation for the next two nights. Warm and friendly hosts, great food and a chilling atmosphere promises good rest.
2nd Day – Exploring Rudnik Mountain and Rujevica winery
The day starts with a delicious homemade breakfast, you will drive to nearby Rudnik Mountain (1100m a.s.l) and spend some quality time in nature. During your hike, you will discover 3 viewpoints and enjoy the scenic view over the green Sumadija. The hike is not demanding and it takes app 3,5 hours to check all three summits.
After the hike, it’s time for lunch and the next stop will be a lovely family winery Rujevica. This place is not a typical restaurant, the local family owns the place and you can expect a warm hospital and good wines combined with delicious food.
The rest of the day you can spend exploring Kragujevac, the biggest city in Sumadija or relax at your accommodation.
3rd Day – Gems of Zlatibor Mountain
After breakfast, your West Serbia self-guided tour continues to Zlatibor Mountain. This day is reserved for exploring natural gems of Zlatibor, and the first stop is Stopica cave. The entry of the cave is one of the biggest you’re ever seen (20m high and 40m wide), and the main attraction inside are unique limestone tubs.
Shortly after the cave, you will visit Sirogojno ethnology museum and its unique open-air exhibition. Authentic wooden objects from the XVIII century are organized into two households and represent how people used to live in these areas.
A few kilometers from Sirogojno you will find Gostilje waterfall, another natural attraction. The lush green ambiance, many cascades, and rapids flowing from the waterfall make this place a true oasis of peace.
The last stop for today is a quite small village Ljubis. Your accommodation for two nights will be a lovely household Pecinar with warm hospitality and amazing local food.
4th Day – Sargan Eight Train Ride and Višegrad Town
In the morning after breakfast, you drive to Mokra Gora and take a famous Saragan Eight train ride. This authentic train will take you back to the 1930s and some romantic times. The ride lasts app 2,5 hours and takes the passengers on the most exciting railway in Serbia, through the intact nature of Mokra Gora (Park of Nature). The whole experience is enhanced with spectacular views along the way.
After the train ride, the road will take you to Bosnia and Hercegovina and Visegrad town. This town is well-known for its UNESCO heritage site from the XV century- a bridge over the Drina river. Besides this impressive bridge, you will visit a popular tourist complex which is dedicated to a famous Serbian writer and Nobel prize winner Ivo Andrić. Also, it is possible to organize a boat ride and enjoy the view from the river.
On the way back to Ljubis, you can visit the authentic wooden town Kustendorf and treat yourself to a delicious local cake or pastry.
5th Day – Exploring Tara Mountain
The last day of your West Serbia self–guided tour is reserved for Tara Mountain and more activities in nature. The first stop is Mitrovac where you’ll take a walk through the forest and look for a unique phenomenon – carpet meadow which is believed is older than humankind. From there a forest trail will take you to the magnificent viewpoint Banjska stena.
After enjoying this splendid view and wandering around the forest, you will continue towards the foothill of Tara and look for an interesting river Vrelo which is only 365m long. Even though it is one of the shortest rivers, its ambiance and surrounding make it a true gam of nature.
The last stop on your West Serbia self–guided tour is probably the most intriguing sight. Drina house stands for generations in the middle of the river and attracts visitors from all over the world.
