Tour Flow

#YourSerbiaHost will pick you up from your Belgrade accommodation (usual start time is 9:30am) and after an hour and a half drive you’ll reach the first point – Viminacium. Today Viminacium is an archaeological site in the open. It presents what once was the capital of the Roman province Upper Mesia. During the two hour visit local guide will lead you through several sites. You’ll explore the Roman necropolis, antic bath and amphitheater where gladiator fights were held.

Last stop in Viminacium is Mammoth Park. You will see a mammoth skeleton in an authentic environment. The highlight of this exhibition is mammoth Vika whose fully preserved skeleton is one of the few in the world.

From the ancient period you are traveling back to the future, to the XV century and medieval Serbia. You’ll return to 1439 when Smederevo Fortress was completed.  You’ll hear a story why the ruler of Serbia, despot Djuradj Brankovic had to build the new capital right here, surrounded by two rivers, Jezava and Danube. After that, the story about the fortress will get to the more recent history, to the 6th of June 1941 when a major explosion blew up most of the Big Town, when more than 2500 people got killed and 3500 were wounded. The damage is still visible on the ramparts.

After medieval time and the XX century we are back to the present. From Smederevo Fortress we’ll drive through modern day Smederevo town, heading to a local restaurant for lunch. For those who are interested in wine we can add a visit to local wineries Jeremić or Janko. For parties larger than three persons we can organize lunch with wine tasting in winery Janko.

Expected return to Belgrade is in the afternoon. Usual drop off time is around 5pm.

We booked two last-minute tours with Serbian Private Day Tours. We had a great time, thanks to our guide Miljan. He's the ideal tour guide: friendly, knowledgeable, and he knows exactly which spots are worth visiting. We had a terrific time. Couldn't be happier with our decision to go with Serbian Private Tours
