At just 80 kilometers from Belgrade lies a small town rich in history and tells us a tail about royal family Karađorđević, whose history began here. Karađorđe Petrović, the leader of the First Serbian Uprising and founder of Karađorđević dynasty was born here, beneath Oplenac.

We start our tour from arranged point in the morning and after an hour long drive we reach Topola. Our first stop in exploration of Oplenac is Karađorđe’s Town, a spot which once was fortress built by Karađorđe during his reign. Later this fortress was demolished, so today we can see only residence with tower (presently used as museum of Karađorđe’s personal belongings) and Church of Holly Mother also known as Karađorđe’s Church. From Karađorđe’s Town we move up to the top of Oplenac where we continue our exploration with gorgeous mausoleum of family Karađorđević, Saint George’s Church. In this church 22 members of royal family were buried. Karađorđe and King Petar I lie in central part of the church, and rest of the family members are in crypt. Significant characteristic of this church is a mosaic decoration of interior which consists of 40 million pieces in 15,000 shades. In addition to mausoleum this royal complex includes Peter’s house, Queen’s villa, King’s villa, Winegrower’s house and wine cellar. On the hills of Oplenac, King Peter I planted vineyards on 38 hectares from which they made superb wines well known for their quality among major European royal courts. The oldest Serbian wine collection can be found in authentic package from 1931 in this particular wine cellar.

After descent from Oplenac our trip continues four kilometers further to nearby village Vinča and Winery Aleksandrović. Ancient Romans named this village after wine. At that time the name of the village was Vincea. Even in Roman time these regions were well known for vine and wine. There is a possibility of organizing wine tasting in this winery as well as wine purchase.

When we finish with history, culture and wine we move on towards to Aranđelovac to one of three ethno villages where authentic local cuisine expects us in authentic “Šumadija” ambient.

After lunch we return to Belgrade with alternative rout by using old Kragujevac road, beneath Avala.

Journey plan given in this tour description is not fixed, it’s just result of our perception of most interesting points on this rout and result of our own experience. In any moment we can alter the rout and adjust it to interests and wishes of our travellers.

An excellent tour by a very professional, friendly and informative guide. This tour with Serbian Private Tours was our favourite day in Serbia and the lunch at `Hunter`s Paradise` was the best meal we had. Overall an exceptional experience. An extra thank you to Milan for the photos that you took of us - we never take enough photos of ourselves so this was a lovely bonus.

Our day trip to the Royal Town Topola and Oplenac with Serbian Private Tours was enjoyable and educational. It was very interesting to learn more about the various historical and royal figures from Serbian`s past. Church of Saint George was a favorite because of the mosaics and the royal crypt. Many thanks and I highly recommend the service of this company.

Dear Serbian Private Tours, The day that I spent with my wife and you touring the Royal Town Topola and Oplanac was by far the most enjoyable, that I have spent in Serbia yet. Most guides take to a place and let the locals do all the work. But with you. It was much better. your in put was very good and your recommendation for lunch was EXCELLENT. I can truly say that you have changed my way of think about Serbia and much more about PRIVATE TOURS. You can be sure, that when I am in Serbia again, i will ask for another tours with you. All my best David Solow
